Detection of real-world fake base station attacks in Thailand
Cyber threat actors exploited GSM authentication vulnerabilities to use fake base stations as part of SMS phishing attacks to steal from real bank accounts. This talk will show how AIS worked with ecosystem partners in Thailand to detect and block these attacks.
Pepijn has been in cybersecurity and related fields since 1998. He is currently the head of cybersecurity for AIS, one of Thailand’s largest telecommunications company with about 44 million mobile subscribers. He has worked across the European Union up till 2006, when he moved to South East Asia. Besides the telecommunications industry, Pepijn has extensive knowledge in the finance industry as well as across petrochemical, retail, manufacturing and transportation. Historical roles include director at the big four, risk management and fraud management in banks and head of audit in the banking industry.
