Curbing the fraud pandemic through ethical hacking

You are more likely to become a victim of fraud than of hacking. We, the telco security community, can (and must!) help protect individuals from both. Digital fraud creates victims every day, wiping out life savings and entrapping individuals in scam factories. Yet, telco defenses have historically focused on revenue assurance rather than keeping subscribers safe from scams. We find that a cyber defense mindset can significantly improve anti-fraud outcomes. From adversarial testing to threat hunting and AI co-pilots, the cyber defense toolbox is highly relevant for fraud management. This talk will address real-world cases where ethical hackers made a big difference in pushing back fraud and protecting the trust foundation of the digital economy.
